To commemorate the world famous speech delivered by Swami Vivekananda on 11th September, 1893 at Chicago in the world parliament of religions, Universal Brotherhood Day is being celebrated. Vivekananda Kendra Delhi in association with NSS (National Service Scheme) Hansraj College, University of Delhi, celebrated this event today on Wednesday, 22nd September 2010 at 1P.M. at College Auditorium.
The event started with brotherhood band performance by Volunteers of NSS. Peace ribbon was distributed among all the students and faculty members. Around 500 students and faculty members from Hansraj college and Various other colleges of North campus participated in the function. On this event Major General G.D.Baxi, A Kargil War Hero delivered a talk on “PATRIOTISM: An Essential for the Nation”. A Slogan Writing competition on Brotherhood was organized, Graffiti on brotherhood was made at the entrance of the venue and A Brotherhood Tree was made with flags of all countries of world as a mark of Universal brotherhood.
The idea behind celebrating this function was to spread the messages of Swami Vivekananda among youth. The call of Universal Brotherhood which Swamiji gave to the world in 1893 is certainly relevant today. This event will make the youth realize, that, Brotherhood is the key solution to bring peace in society. The event took place from 1.30 p.m. to 4 p.m. The event was concluded with santipaath.
